Officials reject funding adjustments

Communist and republican elected officials in the Region rejected proposed changes to public high school funding, stating they would not approve of the plan. They highlighted that over 4 million euros are no longer allocated to high schools, marking an 8% decrease in operating funds.

Criticism of funding calculation method

The opposition officials criticized the "change in the method of calculating the contribution of operating funds," arguing it lowers the threshold for deducting funds from the initial allocation. They claimed this method withdraws more funds when they are increasing, effectively reducing the available resources further.

Region president defends funding decisions

Jérôme Durain, president of the Region, defended the funding decisions, stating the Region increases support for institutions when needed. He noted that funding reached a peak in 2025 and was adjusted based on the costs faced by institutions.

Funding levels compared to past years

The president emphasized that this year’s operating funding allocation of 45 million euros is "significantly higher" than the 37 million euros in 2022, representing a 20% increase. He noted that the DGF 2027 remains up 20% compared to 2022.

Reasons for current funding decrease

The Region explained that this year’s funding decrease compared to 2026 is mainly due to reduced energy costs, leading to lower expenses at each high school. This factor influenced the current allocation decision.
