Airship lands in England
On October 16, 1910, the airship Clément-Bayard landed at Wormwood Scrubb after traveling 270 kilometers over six hours and eleven minutes. This marked the first successful flight from France to Great Britain by an airship.Flight begins in France
The journey began earlier on the same day when the airship departed from Lamonte-Breuil after weather conditions improved. It left a little after seven o'clock, carrying a crew of pilots, engineers, and other specialists.Crew members aboard
Among those on board were pilots Baudry and Leprince, the airship’s constructor Clément, parliamentarian Ducros, engineer Sabatier, and mechanics Dilasser and Daire. Each had a specific role in ensuring the flight’s success.Security measures in place
To ensure the flight proceeded safely, a security plan was implemented. Automobiles escorted the airship to Boulogne-sur-Mer, and then a maritime fleet, including a torpedo boat and three smaller torpedo boats, took over in the English Channel.
