Rob Hawkins is one of five players from the Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup-winning team who will help England defend their title in Australia this autumn. Hawkins, who was the top try-scorer in the Wheelchair Super League this season with 70 tries, played a key role in Halifax Panthers' victory over Leeds Rhinos in Sunday's Grand Final, scoring four tries and helping the team complete a domestic treble. Alongside him in England's 10-player final World Cup squad are his club-mates Jack Brown, who scored six tries in the Grand Final, and Finlay O'Neill. All three were part of the England team that defeated France in November 2022 to win the World Cup. The squad also includes Lewis King, who will captain England in Australia, and his club-mate Joe Coyd from the London Roosters, as well as Nathan Collins from Leeds Rhinos. Collins will be joined in the squad by his Leeds teammate Tristan Norfolk, Mason Billington from the Roosters, and the Sheffield Eagles duo of Luis Domingos and Chris Haynes. The tournament will take place alongside the men's and women's Rugby League World Cup, with the wheelchair event hosted at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre in Australia. England's first match in the tournament will be against Wales on Friday, 30 October, followed by games against the USA and Ireland, with the aim of securing a spot in the semi-finals. The final is scheduled for Friday, 13 November. England's head coach, Tom Coyd, who led the team to victory in the 2022 World Cup, emphasized the importance of representing England on the global stage. He praised the recent Grand Final as a reflection of the strong community in wheelchair rugby. The England wheelchair squad will travel to Australia on 22 October. The final squad includes players from several clubs: Mason Billington (London Roosters), Jack Brown (Halifax Panthers), Nathan Collins (Leeds Rhinos), Joe Coyd (London Roosters), Luis Domingos (Sheffield Eagles), Rob Hawkins (Halifax Panthers), Chris Haynes (Sheffield Eagles), Lewis King (London Roosters), Tristan Norfolk (Leeds Rhinos), and Finlay O'Neill (Halifax Panthers).
