Arsenal kept their perfect record in the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The match started with a quick goal from Morgan Rogers, who scored just 90 seconds in for Chelsea. However, Arsenal quickly equalized in the 25th minute through Kai Havertz, and Martin Odegaard added a second goal shortly after halftime, securing a vital victory for Arsenal. Havertz, who joined Arsenal in 2023, praised Odegaard for returning to his best form and being a key player for the season. Odegaard, who has already scored three goals in four games this term, emphasized how the team reacted strongly to the early goal and maintained high performance levels throughout the match. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal's manager, was pleased with how the team responded to conceding the first goal and commended their overall performance. He stressed the need for continued energy and aggression but was happy with their ability to adapt and take control of the game after the initial setback. Despite a strong start and promising performances from their new signings, Chelsea's defeat exposed defensive weaknesses and a lack of control in midfield. Xabi Alonso, Chelsea's manager, acknowledged the need for defensive improvements and a more balanced team approach. Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool player and Sky Sports pundit, pointed out a noticeable gap between Arsenal and Chelsea, stating that Arsenal’s defensive strength and overall quality make them the favorite for the title. He also criticized the decision to sign Emiliano Martinez, suggesting the goalkeeper is past his prime and not at the level required to compete with top teams. Arteta highlighted the importance of team unity and the contributions from key players like Odegaard and Havertz. He also noted the positive impact of new signings, including Christos Tzolis, who assisted Odegaard’s goal. With this win, Arsenal and Manchester City are the only teams with maximum points from their first three games, setting up a highly competitive title race. Arsenal will next face Napoli in their Champions League opener, while Chelsea plays Leeds United in the Carabao Cup.
