FX has officially started filming a live-action series based on the popular Far Cry video game franchise. The announcement was made on Monday, September 14, through the production team’s Instagram account. This series is being developed by Noah Hawley, known for creating Fargo and Alien: Earth, along with Rob McElhenney, co-creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Unlike traditional adaptations that focus on a single game’s storyline, this series will draw inspiration from the broader Far Cry universe, which is developed by the video game company Ubisoft. The show will follow an anthology format, meaning each season will tell a completely new story set in a different exotic location, with new characters facing unique challenges. Noah Hawley has described the series as exploring themes of survival, human madness, and the unpredictable nature of chaos. The first season will be filmed at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom, a well-known hub for film and television production. The cast includes Rob McElhenney in a leading role, alongside Steve Buscemi and Lizzy Caplan. Hawley is also currently working on the second season of Alien: Earth, another of his projects. Production is expected to last several months, with the first season of Far Cry set to debut in late 2027 on FX in the United States and on Disney+ in other countries. This marks a significant step in bringing the Far Cry universe to television, blending the intense, open-world gameplay of the video games with the storytelling of a serialized drama.
