Fifteen new groups of generic drugs have been added to the generic drug directory by the French National Agency for the Safety of Health Products and Medicines (ANSM). These groups include both urban and hospital specialty drugs, such as SYNJARDY, IBRANCE, VYNDAQEL, PABAL, and UPTRAVI. However, registration in the directory does not automatically mean the drugs are available for sale. This depends on the expiration of the original drug's patent rights. Registration is required for a generic drug to be substituted for the original drug at the pharmacy. The EMPAGLIFLOZINE and METFORMINE groups include film-coated tablets with specific combinations of doses—5 mg and 1000 mg, and 12.5 mg and 1000 mg, respectively. These are reference products for SYNJARDY 5 mg/1000 mg and SYNJARDY 12.5 mg/1000 mg tablets, which are used to treat type 2 diabetes. However, generic drugs in these groups are not yet on the market as of October 2026. The PALBOCICLIB group includes film-coated tablets with doses of 75 mg, 100 mg, and 125 mg, with IBRANCE as the reference drug. IBRANCE is used to treat breast cancer. Generic drugs in this group are also not marketed as of October 2026. Only the capsule versions of IBRANCE are available in France, and no generic group has been created for these specific presentations. The TAFAMIDIS group includes soft capsules with 61 mg, referencing VYNDAQEL 61 mg soft capsules. VYNDAQEL is used to treat wild-type or hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis in adults with cardiomyopathy. Generic drugs in this group are not yet on the market as of October 2026. A warning has been added to the directory, noting that generic versions of VYNDAQEL are not authorized for the treatment of wild-type transthyretin amyloidosis in adult patients with cardiomyopathy. The CARBETOCINE group includes injectable solutions with 100 micrograms/mL, referencing PABAL 100 micrograms/mL injectable solution. PABAL is a hospital drug used to prevent postpartum hemorrhage caused by uterine atony. The generic drug CARBETOCINE EVER PHARMA in this group is not yet marketed as of October 6, 2026. A different version of CARBETOCINE AGUETTANT in prefilled syringe form, which is marketed in France, is not included in this group. The SELEXIPAG group includes film-coated tablets with doses ranging from 200 to 1600 micrograms, referencing UPTRAVI 200 to 1600 micrograms film-coated tablets. UPTRAVI is a hospital drug used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Generic drugs in this group are also not marketed as of October 2026. The differences in the composition of inactive ingredients, known as excipients, between original drugs and their generic versions are detailed in the generic drug directory. The decision regarding these generic drugs was made on October 2, 2026, and the full list of the directory was published by ANSM on October 6, 2026.
