Coleen Rooney has said that she and her husband Wayne don’t feel the need to prove themselves to anyone through their upcoming television series. The couple, who have been married since 2008, are the subject of a new Disney Plus documentary called The Real Rooneys, which follows their lives over a significant year. The series documents the Rooneys as Wayne transitions out of football management—leaving behind the pressures of the dugout to take on the more demanding role of a parent—while Coleen pursues some of the biggest professional opportunities of her career. The documentary includes scenes of the couple managing their careers and family life while raising their four sons: Kai, 16; Klay, 13; Kit, 10; and Cass, 8. At the series’ London premiere, Coleen told the Press Association that the show wasn’t meant to challenge any public misconceptions about them but rather to portray them as a normal, everyday family. She explained that people in the public eye are often seen as different from the rest of society, but she wanted to show that they are just real people living real lives. Coleen acknowledged that many celebrities now share their daily lives on social media rather than through traditional TV shows. However, she said the Rooneys were ready to open up more about their lives at this stage. She noted that the world has changed, and whether or not someone is famous, their lives are often shared online. This shift, she said, made it easier for them to embrace the idea of having their own show. Disney described The Real Rooneys as a look into the highs and lows of married life, raising four active boys, and supporting their eldest son Kai as he chases his own footballing dreams. The series includes personal moments, career milestones, extravagant celebrations, and memorable family trips, taking viewers from their home in Cheshire to the beaches of Barbados and the snowy Alps. The show will be available exclusively on Disney+ starting September 24. Wayne, who retired from professional football in January 2021, now works as a TV pundit, while Coleen recently finished second in the reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here in 2024.
