The French Ministry of Labor is launching an initiative worth 80 million euros to help workers adapt to changes brought about by artificial intelligence (AI). This plan comes at a time when the government is focused on reducing public spending, with part of the budget allocated to apprentice training centers. The 12-measure strategy aims to address training, support businesses, foster social dialogue, and improve working conditions. It is designed to help workers and employers navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by AI. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee), only 18% of French businesses used at least one AI-related technology in 2025, which is about half the rate seen in other advanced European countries. This delay in AI adoption has prompted the Ministry of Labor to focus on measures that offer the highest return on investment and create a framework that other organizations can build upon. The government also needs to achieve 2.5 billion euros in savings by 2027, and these selected measures are expected to contribute to that goal. Half of the measures in the plan focus on helping workers become more familiar with AI, a process called "acculturation." A new free platform called Explore IA, developed by Pix—a government-backed startup—will be launched to allow individuals to test their knowledge and engage in fun AI-related courses. This platform is an extension of Pix’s existing AI education programs for students. Additionally, an "AI maturity scale" will be introduced to help the unemployed assess their readiness for AI-related jobs. Apprenticeship training centers, known as CFA, will be supported financially to train more workers in skills needed for AI adoption, such as AI development and cybersecurity. A national fund for CFA will also be created and expanded in the 2027 finance bill, with increased public funding for strategic apprenticeship training. Job seekers will be able to use France Travail to take an AI maturity test and receive a personalized training path. The Personal Training Account (CPF) will be reformed to prioritize AI training, offering more co-financing options to reduce out-of-pocket costs for individuals seeking AI-related education. Finally, "business task forces" will raise awareness among small and medium-sized enterprises on AI applications, especially in recruitment, while professional groups will be encouraged to engage in social dialogue around AI’s impact on the workforce.
