New feature in WhatsApp testing

WhatsApp is testing a new feature that aims to make it easier for users to request someone else's location. The feature was found in version 2.26.41.11 of the app on Android devices.

Feature adds "Request Location" option

A new option labeled "Request Location" has appeared in the app's sharing menu. This allows users to send a request for someone else's location directly from the menu.

Feature not yet fully functional

Despite the addition of the "Request Location" option, the feature is not yet fully functional. When users tap the "Location Request" card, it currently results in an error message.

Future functionality expected to simplify process

The feature is expected to eventually allow the recipient to directly access the location-sharing menu. This would bypass the current multi-step process and make sharing location easier.

Similar to iMessage's location request

The functionality is expected to resemble the location request feature already available in iMessage on iPhone, which allows users to request a location with a single tap.

Release date for final version unknown

The deployment date for the final version of the feature is not yet known, and it may take some time before it is available to all users.
