Faure backs Glucksmann for 2027 presidency

Olivier Faure, the first secretary of the French Socialist Party (PS), has announced his support for Raphaël Glucksmann in the 2027 presidential election. Faure, who recently lost the left-wing primary, expressed his desire for a broad leftist coalition that includes ecologists, François Ruffin, Clémentine Autain, and communists.

Faure criticizes former leaders

Faure expressed reservations about François Hollande and Bernard Cazeneuve, criticizing their perceived openness to the center-right. He refused to resign from the PS leadership despite calls for his departure following his primary defeat.

Faure commits to supporting Glucksmann

He stated that he would support Glucksmann and help mobilize the party's resources, including financial support, for the campaign. Faure emphasized the need for unity among the left, stating that a transformation policy would require collaboration with other leftist groups.

PS plans to oppose government policies

Faure mentioned that discussions with ecologists, Ruffin, Autain, and communists would begin soon. He clarified that the PS remains independent in its decisions, particularly in the context of upcoming legislative elections, and that the party would vote against the government's proposed budget cuts.

Faure aims to ensure left presence in second round

He reiterated his opposition to the government's economic plans and confirmed his intention to remain in the PS leadership while participating in Glucksmann's campaign, with the goal of ensuring the left's presence in the second round of the presidential election and preventing an extreme-right victory.
