Demonstration planned in Toulouse

A demonstration against the high cost of living is set to occur in Toulouse on Saturday, October 24, after unions and the prefect of Haute-Garonne reached an agreement. The event will take place along a specific route that has been adjusted to avoid previous issues.

Route details for the demonstration

The procession will start at 2 p.m. from the top of the Jean-Jaurès avenues, near the Pierre-Paul Riquet statue, and will follow the Canal du Midi until the Catalan Bridge. It will then proceed to Étienne-Billières Avenue, between Saint-Cyprien and Patte d'Oie, where the demonstration is expected to conclude.

Previous demonstration caused disturbances

The route was changed after a demonstration on October 17, which saw 32,000 people according to the prefecture, though unions reported 80,000 participants. The event led to violence, damage, and shop looting in several parts of the city center.

Restrictions on demonstrations announced

The President of the Republic stated that only union-organized demonstrations would be allowed, with routes designed to protect businesses and public buildings. Partial or total bans were issued in several cities, including Montpellier, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, and Toulon.

Other gatherings planned in the region

In addition to the main demonstration in Toulouse, other gatherings are scheduled in Haute-Garonne, including at locations such as Jolimont, Matabiau Station, Saint-Cyprien - Arènes Station, and in towns like Beauzelle, Blagnac, and Muret.
