Apple is preparing to introduce a new line of home-connected products on October 13, as reported by various media outlets. The lineup includes a new home hub with a screen, an updated HomePod mini, and a new Apple TV. These products are part of Apple’s ongoing efforts to integrate more seamlessly with the home environment and enhance its smart home ecosystem. The home hub, codenamed J490, is described as a square screen about 6 inches in size, available in two versions: a desktop model and a wall-mounted version. The desktop version would resemble the iMac G4 "Sunflower" from 2002, featuring a screen mounted on a half-dome base, while the wall-mounted version, codenamed J491, would be flatter with a square base under the screen. Both models would connect via USB-C and would not have a built-in battery. The hub would be able to recognize individual household members by voice or face and display their contacts, messages, calendar, and notes. The iPhone would serve as a backup for identification, and a guest mode would hide personal information. In low-light conditions, a virtual light ring would assist the camera in identifying people. The HomePod mini, which has not changed in design since 2020, is expected to receive a faster chip to improve the performance of Siri AI. It will also be available in new colors, including green and pink. Similarly, the Apple TV, which has not changed since 2022, will also get a faster chip to enhance Siri AI functionality. The release of these products was delayed due to delays with the new version of Siri, which is now available in Europe. It is expected that Siri AI will be available in Europe for these products, as they are not subject to EU regulation, unlike the iPhone and iPad. Apple is also working on J450, a camera and security sensor that can detect which room a person is in without recording video. A more advanced hub with a 9-inch screen mounted on a robotic arm that can pivot 360 degrees is also in development. Apple plans to expand its HomeKit platform and collaborate with third-party manufacturers to create devices compatible with Siri AI. No prices for the hub, HomePod mini, or Apple TV have been revealed yet. The company has not officially announced the products but has not commented on the reports either.
