Mauves bridges closed until October 30

The Mauves bridges, connecting Mauves-sur-Loire and Divatte-sur-Loire across the Loire River, have been completely closed since Monday, October 26 at 8 a.m. The closure is expected to last until Friday, October 30 at 5 p.m., with no exceptions during nighttime hours.

Closure affects all road users

The closure applies to all types of traffic, including vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Atlantic’eau, the public water supply service, confirmed that two-wheelers, pedestrians, and cyclists are also banned from using the bridges during the full closure period.

Daily traffic volume impacted

The Mauves bridges typically handle around 4,500 vehicles per day, according to a January 28, 2026, statement from the Loire-Atlantique Department. Drivers relying on these bridges are advised to follow detour signs during the closure.

Alternating traffic regime when bridges open

When the bridges are open, vehicle traffic moves in both directions but under an alternating traffic regime. The upstream bridge, near Angers, remains closed, while pedestrians can use the downstream bridge near Nantes, and cyclists may use it only when walking beside their bicycles or during alternating traffic periods.

Nighttime closures planned for November

Starting Monday, November 2, the bridges will be closed each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. During the day, crossing will continue under the alternating traffic regime. This follows the initial full closure in late October.

Work linked to water network upgrades

The closures are part of a project by Atlantic’eau to replace an aging water pipe beneath the bridges with a larger-diameter pipeline. This upgrade aims to improve water transfer from the Basse-Goulaine production unit to the northeast of the department.

Construction faced challenges

The project, initially contracted to SADE for 900,000 euros before taxes, encountered difficulties such as a road collapse in January and a disruption due to the Loire flood in February. The current work is part of the follow-up to these incidents.

Final stage of work planned

Atlantic’eau has announced another final stage of work before the end of the year. Until then, crossing the Mauves bridges will remain subject to alternating traffic, with temporary signage and detour instructions in place near the structures.
