Israeli military forces and Shin Beth, the country's internal security agency, confirmed on Sunday that they had killed a man linked to the abduction of two Israeli citizens during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. The operation took place in the Nuseirat area of the Gaza Strip and targeted Saher Nidal Latfi Sakr, identified as a terrorist in a joint statement. According to the statement, Sakr had infiltrated Israeli territory during the initial attack and was responsible for driving the motorcycle used to abduct Noa Argamani and Avinatan Or from the Nova music festival, which was held near the border with Gaza. The two hostages were later released in separate operations. Noa Argamani, a university student, was freed in June 2024 during an Israeli military operation. Avinatan Or was released in October 2025 alongside 19 other surviving hostages as part of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which officially took effect on October 10, under pressure from the United States. The abduction at the Nova festival was broadcast live on October 7, 2023, and has since become a powerful and widely recognized image of the attack. In the footage, Noa Argamani is seen crying and reaching out toward her companion as she is forcibly taken on a motorcycle, while Avinatan Or is shown standing with his hands bound behind his back, surrounded by several men. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made an unannounced visit to the United Arab Emirates on Sunday to meet with its leader, according to several Israeli media outlets. The attack by Hamas on October 7 was the largest and deadliest carried out by the Palestinian group against Israel, resulting in 1,221 deaths, mostly civilians, according to a count by the French news agency AFP. In response, Israel launched a military operation in the Gaza Strip, which has led to more than 73,000 deaths, according to the Palestinian health ministry, which operates under Hamas rule. These figures are considered credible by the United Nations.
