Van behavior raises suspicion

During the night of October 27, gendarmes from the Belleville-en-Beaujolais brigade noticed a van whose behavior near a heavy truck had drawn their attention. The unusual movement of the van prompted the military to investigate further.

Suspects refuse to comply

The military decided to check the vehicle, but its occupants refused to comply and fled, initiating a chase across three departments. This led to a pursuit that involved multiple regions and required a significant response from law enforcement.

Chase spans multiple departments

The van crossed successively the Rhône, the Ain and Saône-et-Loire, requiring several gendarmerie units to intervene. The pursuit involved multiple gendarmerie units from different locations, showing the scale of the operation.

Suspects attempt to hinder pursuit

During their escape, the suspects allegedly tried to hinder the military by throwing gasoline drums and various objects onto the road. This tactic was aimed at creating obstacles and delaying the pursuit by the gendarmes.

Multiple units mobilized

PSIG from Villefranche-sur-Saône and Bourg-en-Bresse were mobilized, as were the brigades from Villefranche-sur-Saône, La Chapelle-de-Guinchay and Montmerle-sur-Saône. These units worked together to track and intercept the fleeing van.

Van stopped with interception devices

The van was stopped thanks to interception devices of the "stop sticks" type. These devices are used to halt vehicles without causing damage and are commonly deployed in such pursuits.

Suspects captured after van stops

The van eventually stopped on the roadside. One of its occupants then tried to continue fleeing on foot but was quickly caught by the military. Both suspects were placed in custody to allow the continuation of the investigation.

Gendarmerie praises coordination

The Rhône gendarmerie commends an intervention that, according to them, illustrates "the coordination and mobilization of units" in the face of non-compliance. This operation is seen as a successful example of teamwork among different law enforcement units.
