Chinese firms order NVIDIA GPUs despite U.S. restrictions

Chinese technology companies such as Alibaba, Tencent, and ByteDance have placed large orders for NVIDIA's RTX PRO 5500 GPUs, totaling $35 billion. These orders are for a product that serves as an alternative to more advanced NVIDIA chips that are currently blocked from export to China.

U.S. export restrictions limit access to top-tier GPUs

The B300 GPU, which is among the most advanced in NVIDIA's lineup, is subject to a U.S. export ban that prevents Chinese firms from obtaining it. Access to another high-end chip, the H200, is only possible with special license approvals from the U.S. government.

NVIDIA may struggle to meet demand for RTX PRO 5500

The orders for the RTX PRO 5500 include more than 3 million graphics processing units. However, according to Reuters sources, NVIDIA may not be able to fulfill the full demand due to production and supply chain challenges.

Chinese companies continue to invest in NVIDIA despite restrictions

Despite the export restrictions, Chinese technology firms continue to invest heavily in NVIDIA products. This indicates that they remain reliant on the company, even as other domestic players like Huawei gain traction in the market.
