Christian Estrosi, the former mayor of Nice, is currently under judicial investigation for two specific charges: "misappropriation of public funds" and "illegal interest-taking." These allegations relate to the potential use of Metropolitan resources and the organization of his 2025 political event, known as "Lou festin nissart." This event, traditionally used as a political comeback for Estrosi, was held shortly after Éric Ciotti announced his candidacy for mayor, which eventually led to Ciotti becoming the mayor of Nice in March 2026. The event drew over 6,200 attendees and has now become the focus of a judicial inquiry. The investigation was initiated at the end of September 2025, as confirmed by Nice prosecutors. The charges stem from the potential misuse of public resources and the organization of the event. Damien Martinelli, the prosecutor of the Republic, confirmed the opening of the investigation, which is being handled by the interdepartmental judicial police service for the Alpes-Maritimes region. Estrosi’s lawyer, Me Matthieu Avril, has not yet responded to recent inquiries but previously criticized what he described as a "context of harassment" by Éric Ciotti, asserting that his client has always used public funds appropriately. This new investigation adds to a series of ongoing legal procedures involving Christian Estrosi and his wife, Laura Tenoudji, a journalist. Among the other investigations are preliminary inquiries into the use of official cars and their drivers, which are suspected of being used for personal trips outside the regulations. Another investigation in Marseille focuses on the funding and organization of events held in Nice in 2023, such as the Eurovision Junior and the Nice Climate Summit. These probes examine possible misappropriation of public funds, illegal interest-taking, and the use of forged documents. Christian Estrosi is also involved in several other legal cases, including those concerning the financial mismanagement of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the reconstruction efforts after the Alex storm in 2020, and the security arrangements for the Promenade des Anglais during the July 14th attack. In the latter case, Estrosi was designated an "assisted witness." According to Mediapart, a dozen investigations directly or indirectly involve Estrosi. However, neither he nor his wife is currently under formal investigation in these cases. They both deny any involvement in the alleged misconduct and are presumed innocent at this stage.
