Lorenzo Musetti wins ATP 250 Lyon tournament

Lorenzo Musetti defeated Taylor Fritz in the final of the ATP 250 Lyon tournament on Sunday, October 25, ending a four-year title drought with a score of 6-3, 6-4.

Musetti’s third ATP Tour title

This victory marked Musetti's third career title on the ATP Tour. The Italian previously won titles in Naples and Hamburg in 2022 but had lost his next seven finals, leaving him without a trophy for over four years.

Close calls before Lyon

Musetti had come close to winning a title this year earlier in January, losing to Alexander Bublik in the final of the ATP 250 Hong Kong tournament. Prior to the Lyon final, he had secured victories over compatriot Matteo Arnaldi and Moïse Kouame in the early rounds.

Tough match against Luca Van Assche

Musetti faced a challenging three-hour match against Luca Van Assche, which he won in a tightly contested third set, 7-6[5], 6-7[7], 6-4. This victory demonstrated his resilience and ability to perform under pressure.

Semifinal victory over Flavio Cobolli

In the semifinals, Musetti saved four match points against fellow Italian Flavio Cobolli before emerging victorious with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. This win set the stage for his eventual triumph in the final.
