Bessemer Venture Partners, a prominent venture capital firm, announced on Wednesday that it has raised $5.75 billion across two new investment funds. This substantial amount is intended to accelerate Bessemer's investments in various parts of the AI stack, which refers to the full range of technologies and services that support artificial intelligence, from foundational models to application development tools. The firm, known for backing successful companies like Anthropic, Shopify, and Waymo, has allocated $1.75 billion for seed and early-stage startups and the remaining $4 billion for growth-stage companies.
Bessemer has long been recognized as a leading venture capital firm during the SaaS (Software as a Service) era, with a strong track record in identifying successful enterprise technologies. Companies like Box, DocuSign, and Gainsight were among the winners of Bessemer's early investments. Since 2022, the firm has invested in over 260 AI-native companies, which are businesses specifically built around artificial intelligence technologies.
To date, Bessemer has invested $3 billion in AI-related startups, covering a wide range of areas including compute resources, infrastructure, foundational AI models, development tools, application-layer startups, and agentic technologies—those that use AI to perform tasks autonomously. Bessemer Partner Byron Deeter noted in the funding announcement that AI-native companies are growing faster than any other category of technology the firm has previously invested in.
Deeter also mentioned in an interview with Bloomberg that venture capital firms need to continue increasing their investment funds, or "war chests," due to a long-term trend where companies are staying private for longer periods. This shift is changing how venture capital firms operate and allocate their resources, as they now need to support startups through extended growth phases without the pressure of an initial public offering.
