Bosch has introduced the HomeCafé Série 4, a semi-automatic espresso machine priced at 599 euros. Designed for coffee enthusiasts who want more control over their brewing process, the machine includes an integrated bean grinder and a filter holder, allowing users to adjust various extraction parameters for a more customized cup of coffee. This model is part of Bosch’s growing line of home kitchen appliances, expanding beyond traditional coffee makers into the specialty coffee market. The HomeCafé Série 4 uses a Thermoblock heating system with electronic temperature control, enabling users to select from four different water temperatures: 90 °C, 92 °C, 94 °C, or 96 °C. While the machine can generate up to 15 bars of pressure, which is higher than the 9 bars typically needed for a good espresso, a manometer on the front panel shows the actual pressure during brewing. This allows users to monitor and adjust the pressure manually for better results. The integrated grinder features a 250 g bean tray with 30 distinct fineness settings and five preselected dosing options, giving users flexibility in how they grind their beans. The extraction process uses a professional stainless steel filter holder with a 58 mm diameter, which is compatible with both single-wall and double-wall filters. However, the machine does not automatically tamp the coffee grounds, meaning users must manually press the grounds into the filter to ensure even extraction. The HomeCafé Série 4 includes a removable 2.8-liter water tank, direct access to five pre-programmed drinks—espresso, lungo, americano, cold brew, and hot water—and a manual steam wand for creating milk foam. The machine also features automatic cleaning and descaling programs with built-in reminders to maintain performance. It comes with several accessories, including a tamper, stainless steel milk jug, dosing support with a tamping mat, cleaning disc, needle, and maintenance brush. Bosch’s move into the espresso machine market follows its recent entry into the floor cleaning sector with the OneFlow line, signaling a broader push into home appliance innovation.
