Shokz, a brand known for its open-ear headphones, has introduced the OpenFit 2 AI, a new model unveiled at IFA 2026. These headphones are part of the company's open-ear concept, which allows users to hear their surroundings while wearing the headphones. The OpenFit 2 AI adds advanced AI features that could change how people use them in daily life, such as recording, transcription, meeting summaries, and real-time translation. Although the product is already available in China, there is no official plan for a European launch at this time. The OpenFit 2 AI uses the Qwen model, an AI system that allows users to control various functions directly from the headphones. Users can start recording by pressing the headphones, the case, or the Shokz app. The headphones can record for up to 8 hours, with a range of up to 5 meters in controlled environments. A double press can mark important parts of the recording for easy retrieval. The microphones inside the headphones and the case allow for recording even when the headphones are not being worn. Once recorded, the audio is sent to a smartphone and then stored in the cloud, where users can access it through the Shokz app. For transcription, the OpenFit 2 AI supports 49 languages and dialects, including 19 Chinese dialects. This includes French, which is one of the supported languages. The AI can distinguish between multiple speakers, making it easier to read transcriptions on a smartphone. After a meeting, the system can generate a summary of the main topics and tasks discussed. Shokz offers 19 different report models tailored for specific fields like law, finance, computing, medicine, and journalism. The OpenFit 2 AI also includes translation functions, such as call translation, face-to-face translation, and translation of audio or video content. Voice translation is available in 11 languages, including French, English, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Portuguese, Thai, Indonesian, and Vietnamese, as well as Chinese. The translated speech is played through the headphones in a language the user has chosen. While French is supported in China, the product is not yet ready for the European market, as the company wants to ensure the quality and reliability of its multilingual experience before launching in Europe. In addition to AI features, the OpenFit 2 AI inherits the technical specifications of the OpenFit 2+. These include the DualBoost acoustic principle, which uses two transducers per earpiece, and enhanced bass and sound leakage control with OpenBass 2.0 and DirectPitch 2.0. Each headphone weighs about 9.4 grams and uses a flexible titanium hook covered in silicone to stay in place without entering the ear canal. The headphones offer up to 11 hours of battery life on a single charge, or 48 hours with the case, which can be charged via USB-C or a wireless Qi charger. In China, the OpenFit 2 AI is priced at around 1500 yuan (approximately 200 euros). Considering the added AI features, the European price could be at least 230 euros, compared to the 199 euros for the OpenFit 2+ in France.
