The Palestinian Ministry of Education has reported that more than 20,000 students and over 1,000 members of the educational and administrative staff have been killed in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank since October 7, 2023. This figure includes 19,189 students and 1,386 staff members in the Gaza Strip, while 134 students and 39 staff members were killed in the occupied West Bank. Additionally, 805 school staff and 246 university staff members in Gaza, along with seven school employees in the West Bank, have been killed during this period. The ministry also noted hundreds of injured individuals, arrests, and the destruction of numerous institutions across Palestinian territories. The ministry highlighted the extensive damage to educational infrastructure, stating that 179 public schools in Gaza have been completely destroyed. Furthermore, 105 schools managed by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) have been damaged by Israeli airstrikes. These attacks have significantly impacted the availability of safe learning environments for children in the region. According to the ministry, the ongoing conflict has caused nearly 74,000 deaths and 174,000 injuries since October 2023. It also reported that 90% of civilian infrastructure in the Palestinian territories has been destroyed over the past three years. This includes homes, hospitals, and other essential services, severely affecting the daily lives of residents. The ministry's report underscores the profound humanitarian crisis faced by the Palestinian population, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank. The destruction of schools and the loss of educational personnel have long-term implications for the region's youth and future development. The situation continues to draw international attention and concern from human rights organizations and global leaders.
