Helen Chiang leaves Microsoft

Helen Chiang, who had been head of operations for XBOX, left the company after just four months in the role. She had worked for Microsoft for over 20 years, including more than a decade managing the Minecraft license.

Internal note confirms departure

The news of her departure was shared in an internal note signed by Asha Sharma, CEO of XBOX, and reported by The Verge on October 23. Sharma expressed gratitude for Chiang's service but did not provide a specific reason for her leaving.

XBOX declines to comment

When asked by Eurogamer for an official statement, XBOX said it would not comment on individual personnel matters. The company reiterated its appreciation for Chiang's years of service and wished her well.

Reports suggest policy violation

According to reports from Eurogamer and other sources, including The Verge's Tom Warren, Chiang was "fired for policy violation." Warren noted that sources indicated she was dismissed, with the internal explanation citing a policy violation, though no further details were given.

Departure precedes major layoffs

Chiang's departure occurred just days before Microsoft announced layoffs affecting over 3,200 employees. Several XBOX studios, including Arkane Lyon, were also exiting the portfolio. Arkane Lyon, known for Dishonored and Deathloop, is reportedly seeking a new buyer.
