Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have introduced new premium experiences named Aurora and Leihōkū, respectively, along with a new class called Premium Reserve. These upgrades aim to enhance the comfort and luxury of air travel for passengers. Alaska Airlines will offer Aurora on its Boeing 787 and certain Boeing 737-10 MAX aircraft, while also launching Premium Reserve on its Boeing 787, some 737 MAX 10s, and the Airbus A330 operated by Hawaiian Airlines. The Aurora suites will feature lie-flat seats, direct aisle access, and privacy doors on the 787-9 and 787-10 models. While the 737 MAX 10 will also receive Aurora suites, it is uncertain whether they will include privacy doors. Premium Reserve will be positioned between the Aurora or Leihōkū suites and the standard Premium Class, offering more spacious economy seats. Alaska Airlines plans to install 35 Premium Reserve seats on each of its 787-9 and future 787-10 aircraft, 12 on the selected 737 MAX 10s, while Hawaiian Airlines will fit 28 on its A330 aircraft. Commercial use of these new cabins is expected to begin in the summer of 2027, with a gradual rollout starting in 2028. The new cabins will include 38 inches of space between seats, an expanded seat base, a leg rest, and a 16-inch 4K OLED screen, along with Bluetooth connectivity, power outlets, and USB-C ports. Both airlines also plan to upgrade their in-flight meals, with menus designed by local chefs. Alaska Airlines will open a new lounge complex of nearly 3,800 square meters in Seattle by the end of 2027, while Hawaiian Airlines will launch a lounge of approximately 1,200 square meters in Honolulu at the start of 2028. Reservations for the new cabins will open in the summer of 2027, with the actual deployment of the new seating starting in 2028. Hawaiian Airlines will introduce Leihōkū on its 24 Airbus A330 aircraft, which will include redesigned interiors, 22 lie-flat seats, and 28 Premium Reserve seats. The percentage of premium seats will increase to around 40 percent, up from the current 30 percent. The Leihōkū suites will also have direct aisle access and privacy doors. The 24 A330 aircraft are expected to receive their new interiors starting in 2028. Alaska Airlines plans to expand its international network from Seattle, adding new routes to Athens and Paris-CDG starting in May 2027. However, passengers on these routes may not initially experience the new Premium Reserve cabins, as their rollout is scheduled to begin in 2028. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has delayed the certification of the 737 MAX 10 while reviewing a software issue. Alaska Airlines clarified that none of its currently operating aircraft use the affected software version.
