Contract extension for Clément Vergé

The Stade Toulousain has extended the contract of Clément Vergé, a 25-year-old lock, until June 2030. The renewal was officially announced and comes amid Vergé's recovery from a serious knee injury.

Injury and recovery timeline

Vergé suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a summer training camp in Gérone and underwent surgery in September. As a result, he has not played any matches this season and faces a lengthy recovery period.

Career progression at Toulouse

Vergé joined the Toulouse academy in 2018 and progressed through the ranks from the Espoirs to the professional team, making his Top 14 debut in October 2022. In the 2025-2026 season, he played 23 Top 14 matches, starting 13 of them, and scored two tries.

Physical and tactical value

Standing at two meters tall, his physical attributes are considered valuable in aerial combat. His versatility in playing both lock positions provides flexibility for coach Ugo Mola in arranging the pack, especially with frequent absences of international players.

Reinforcing the lock position

The extension of Vergé's contract follows the recent renewal of Emmanuel Meafou's deal, reinforcing Toulouse's lock position for the coming years. The club has faced challenges with injuries in this area, prompting them to explore the medical joker option as the Champions Cup approaches.

Focus on recovery and future

For Vergé, the immediate challenge is to recover from his knee injury and regain his place in the team's rotation. His club has expressed confidence in his future, and Vergé, who joined the club as a teenager, is expected to continue contributing to the team in the years ahead.
