Netanyahu comments on France's situation

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that France has "succumbed to the invasion of extremist Islam" during an interview with i24News on October 20. He made the remarks in response to recent violence and looting in France, suggesting that the country failed to prepare adequately for such events.

Netanyahu advises France to fight extremism

During the same interview, Netanyahu advised France to "fight, do not play peace, fight against extremists." He made the statement in response to a question about what advice he would give to France, emphasizing the need for a strong response to extremist threats.

Netanyahu warns of consequences for not acting

Netanyahu also recalled a previous warning he had given to French President Emmanuel Macron after the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel. He said, "If we do not eliminate them here, you will have them in Paris," and claimed that "that is exactly what is happening" in reference to the current situation in France.

Similar claims by former US president

American former President Donald Trump has made similar statements, claiming that France was "under attack, looted and set on fire by migrants, jihadists, and communists." These comments align with Netanyahu’s recent remarks about the nature of the unrest in France.

Violence and unrest in France

On Saturday, following a nationwide mobilization for purchasing power, many French cities experienced looting and riots. Authorities reported approximately 2,400 arrests and a thousand police officers and gendarmes being injured during the incidents.

Tensions between France and Israel

Relations between France and Israel have deteriorated since Paris officially recognized the State of Palestine in September 2025. Netanyahu had previously accused Macron of "fueling antisemitism" in France, contributing to the growing diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
