Domestic violence case turns around

A woman in her thirties from Anse Rhône was found guilty of domestic violence by the Villefranche-sur-Saône court, despite having initially filed a complaint against her ex-partner in April 2024.

Legal twist in the trial

The woman had reported incidents of violence by her ex-partner, leading to his arrest and questioning. However, the trial revealed that she was the one accused of violence against him between December 2023 and April 2024.

Evidence presented in court

The lawyer for the civil party presented various pieces of evidence, including insulting messages, voice recordings, witness testimonies, and police reports from officers who had visited the couple’s home.

Defense claims and arguments

The accused woman claimed she no longer remembered the events and accused the police of lying. Her lawyer argued for her acquittal, stating the situation was a mutual conflict rather than one-sided violence.

Court's decision and consequences

The court found the evidence sufficient to confirm the violence. The woman was ordered to attend a sensitivity training session on domestic and gender-based violence at her own expense and to pay a symbolic euro and 500 euros for her ex-partner’s legal fees.
