Rockstar Games has ramped up its marketing efforts for GTA 6 by releasing new images and detailed information about the upcoming game. New screenshots featuring the game’s protagonists, Lucia and Jason, were published in Love Magazine, which also included an illustration of the pair on its cover. The images show the two in various settings, such as a restaurant and a biker bar, with one image hinting at a large bag ready to be filled with stolen money. According to Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrative at Rockstar, the game centers on the protagonists' pursuit of the American dream, focusing on becoming property owners and paying off debts rather than achieving extreme wealth. Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern, one of the game’s writers, described the characters as vulnerable, strong, imperfect, and capable of learning from each other, calling them authentic and a great team. Another writer, Alexa D'Agostino, noted that the characters are fully realized individuals with their own desires, resulting in something "perfectly imperfect" that includes both clichés and real traits. The game aims to portray characters who are relatable and grounded, rather than exaggerated or idealized figures. Rockstar also shared details about the development of GTA 6, including background on Lucia, who has immigrant origins and grew up in Newark, New Jersey, near the fictional Liberty City. Jason, on the other hand, has a military past, though Rockstar clarified this is not a political statement. The game's setting, Leonida, was influenced by extensive research in Florida, including Miami, the surrounding cities, and the Florida Keys up to Key West. Developers made research trips in small groups before larger teams returned to study key locations. The contrasts in Miami between extreme wealth, poverty, excess, and madness influenced the game's world design. Rockstar aims to create a detailed world where players can spend hundreds of hours, with attention to detail even in minor areas. The game's satire will target conspiracy theories and absurd behaviors of modern society, with Rockstar preferring to create its own distorted versions of current phenomena rather than reproduce existing viral trends. The portrayal of the American dream in the game is more modest, focusing on owning a home, providing for one's family, and repaying debts rather than achieving extreme wealth. Jason and Lucia's relationship is marked by constant tensions, and a character named Raul will act as a mentor, introducing them to larger criminal operations and Vice City. Rockstar described GTA 6 as an "optimistic and naive" story of two young criminals on the run, with the ultimate goal of players getting lost in the game's world, characters, and stories.
