Michael Douglas wanted his character killed off

Michael Douglas, who played Dr. Hank Pym in the Ant-Man films, revealed in an interview with the podcast Happy Sad Confused that he asked the studio to kill off his character. He stated he did not always have a good experience working within the Marvel universe.

Douglas dreamed of acting in a blockbuster

Douglas said acting in a film like Ant-Man was one of his greatest dreams, as it was his first role in a movie heavily reliant on special effects. He usually prefers acting in natural settings, which differs from the process used in Marvel films.

Filming on green screens was challenging

He described filming on green screens as more complicated than he expected. Scenes are often shot on these screens to avoid revealing unfinished backgrounds, a technique common in superhero films.

Studio refused to kill off his character

Douglas mentioned that after appearing in two Marvel projects, he requested his character be killed off, but the studio refused. He now appears to have moved on from the Marvel universe and will not return for upcoming sequels like Avengers: Doomsday.
