More than 50 Lime bikes were seen blocking Lime Street in central London, according to a report. Benedict Simms, 28, took a photograph of the scene around 2pm on Tuesday, showing a large number of bikes piled up on the pavement. Simms estimated there were between 50 and 70 bikes parked on the street, which made it challenging for pedestrians to move around. He noted that four bikes were blocking the entrance to an office, making it hard for him to exit. After turning the corner, he encountered a mass of bicycles. Simms said the photo captured only half of the bikes on the street, with a lorry driver having to move four bikes to leave the area. He also mentioned that delivery drivers frequently park their vehicles on the pavement, even though it is not allowed. Simms described the street as "hectic," especially in the mornings when many Lime bike users try to park their bikes in designated areas. He said locals often express frustration with the situation. The Lime app now marks the area south of the street as a "no parking zone," warning users they could be fined if they park there. Lime has not yet commented on the incident. In several London boroughs, new measures have been introduced to tackle the growing problem of improperly parked e-bikes, which often block pavements. E-bikes scattered across sidewalks have become a common sight, leading to increasing calls for solutions. In Islington, the situation worsened last year to the point where the borough threatened e-bike operators with being banned from the area if they did not address issues like obstructive parking and noise at night. Lime and Westminster council have signed a new agreement aimed at keeping pavements clear of improperly parked dockless e-bikes in the borough. Riders are also facing pressure to follow the rules, following Lime's announcement of fines for those who park bikes in unauthorized spaces across London. Riders who repeatedly park outside permitted areas could face fines of £2 to £10. Repeat offenders may be banned from using Lime bikes altogether.
