Patrick Clancy’s attorney, Howard Cooper, has issued a warning to those spreading conspiracy theories that suggest he was involved in the deaths of his three children. The statement comes after a wave of false and defamatory claims against Clancy, who is the ex-husband of Lindsay Clancy. Cooper said the spread of "blatant and baseless falsehoods" must stop, and warned that those spreading the claims could face legal consequences. This follows an ongoing campaign of misinformation that has targeted Clancy and his family. The conspiracy theories gained momentum as attention on Lindsay Clancy’s trial increased over the summer. Although Patrick Clancy was the first witness to testify in his wife’s trial, which ended in a mistrial last week due to a deadlocked jury, his involvement in the deaths was never discussed in court. Lindsay Clancy admitted through her attorney that she killed their three children in their home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in January 2023, but she pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. A central issue in the case was whether she was criminally responsible for the murders or if she was too mentally ill to understand right from wrong. Patrick Clancy’s publicist, Diana Pisciotta, said that he and his family have been subjected to a relentless campaign of defamation. Cooper stated that the campaign has been fueled by minor celebrities, influencers, and conspiracy theorists who spread false claims about Patrick’s involvement in the deaths, likely to gain social media attention and profit. He described the situation as having reached a "fever pitch," with real-life threats to Clancy’s reputation, livelihood, and safety. Cooper emphasized that Patrick Clancy must take action to stop the harmful behavior and hold those spreading lies accountable. His goal, he said, is to protect the memory of his children—Cora, Dawson, and Callan—and support other women facing perinatal mental health challenges. Legal analyst Caroline Polisi noted that the statement is essentially a "cease and desist letter" and may indicate that Clancy could pursue civil litigation if the false claims continue. Meanwhile, Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz has not yet decided whether a second trial will be held for Lindsay Clancy. Patrick Clancy was the first to find his children on the night of the murders, and he and Lindsay divorced after the tragedy. Lindsay Clancy remains in state custody at Tewksbury Hospital.
