Bypass opens in Ariège

The Salvayre bypass between Bonnac and Pamiers in Ariège was inaugurated on Tuesday, October 20. This new route, which will have cost 5.5 million euros, is intended to reduce traffic on the RD820, which is used by 12,500 vehicles each day, and to limit nuisances for nearby residents.

Project aims to ease congestion

After one year of work, the Salvayre bypass, initiated during the tenure of Henri Nayrou, was inaugurated on Tuesday, October 20, between Bonnac and Pamiers. This new road is intended to divert a portion of the 12,500 vehicles that use the RD820 daily, including 650 heavy trucks.

Improvements for local safety

The bypass includes a lane in each direction and two roundabouts. By shifting part of the traffic to this route, the Department aims to "drastically reduce transit traffic" in the hamlet and "smooth daily movement in this area."

Pedestrian and cyclist access

The improvements also include an underground passage on the Trémège path, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to cross the road safely. A dedicated route for active mobility connects the cycling routes in the Gabriélat area to the Trémège hamlet.

Noise reduction measures

Finally, to reduce noise, specific road surfacing and wooden noise barriers have been installed. These facilities are intended to "provide sound comfort to residents near the bypass," according to the local authority.

Project cost and environmental considerations

The total cost of the project reaches 5.5 million euros, of which 4 million for the works, 350,000 euros for the studies, and 400,000 euros for land acquisitions. An amount of 750,000 euros is also planned for environmental measures and their monitoring over 30 years.

Environmental protections added

Strengthened after requests from the DREAL and the reservations of the National Council for Nature Protection, these measures include the creation of "18 Ha of meadowlands" and 1,500 meters of hedgerows. They are intended to help preserve biodiversity in the area of the Bonnac plain.
