Theater premiere in France

Sur la nouvelle terre, a theatrical production based on two poetic works by Jeanne Benameur — La géographie absente and L'exil n'a pas d'ombre — premiered at the Theatre de Suresnes on 5 November 2026. The production is directed by Micha Herzog and Catherine Pavet, with choreography by Isabelle Pinon.

Cast and roles

The production features Isabelle Pinon, Micha Herzog, and Vincent Rouche in roles that give body, voice, and rhythm to two poetic, sensitive, and universal stories. These roles bring the themes of the original works to life through performance and movement.

Storyline and themes

The narrative follows the exile of a five-year-old child who leaves Algeria with her parents and the story of a woman who is not loved in her village because she reads books. The two stories are presented side by side and are linked by the same quest where exile, synonymous with hope and combativeness, becomes essential, even vital.

Artistic contributions

Original music is composed by Catherine Pavet, while set design is by Joséphine Grillet and video is by Matthieu Berner. Lighting is designed by Léandre Garcia Lamolla. Catherine Pavet also provided an external perspective for L'exil n'a pas d'ombre, adding depth to the production's interpretation of the source material.
