France extends press tax benefits

The National Assembly in France approved a key part of the 2027 Finance Bill on October 30, extending certain tax deductions for press companies until 2029. This change applies to specific provisions in the General Tax Code that allow media companies to deduct expenses related to investments.

Tax deductions support media investments

The extended tax measures let press companies set aside funds or deduct expenses to finance their investments, provided they meet certain conditions. This is intended to help them maintain their ability to invest in a sector facing economic challenges.

Government highlights media financial needs

The government’s notes on the bill stress the importance of preserving press companies’ financial independence and their ability to invest. The extension of these measures is meant to support their growth and modernization efforts.

Film industry tax rules also extended

Article 12 of the bill also extends the tax regime for companies that finance the French film and audiovisual industry, known as SOFICA. This provision is part of the same legislative package aimed at supporting the creative sector.

Bill still needs parliamentary approval

The provisions approved on October 30 are part of the first reading of the 2027 Finance Bill. They are not yet final and will undergo further examination by the French Parliament before becoming law.
