After months of uncertainty, employees of BFM TV met with the management of CMA Media on Wednesday, September 30, to receive new updates about the company’s future. The voluntary departure plan, first announced at the end of June, will be formally presented on October 13 during the next social and economic committee (CSE) meeting. If no employees choose to leave voluntarily, the company may have to consider a formal plan that includes layoffs. The proposed changes have caused concern among staff. One employee described the situation as "a massacre," noting that out of 164 employees, only 80 permanent positions would remain. Some local journalists fear their roles may be eliminated, even though BFM Alsace will not be completely closed like other regional channels such as BFM Normandie and BFM DICI in Gap. Local journalists expressed worries about the future of their work. "We have no assurance that we will continue to do journalism," one employee said quietly. Célia Sommer, a personnel representative for BFM Alsace, explained that the channel could shift toward a business model similar to the main BFM brand, focusing more on employment and economic news. Sommer highlighted that employees are not trained for this new direction. The changes have raised concerns about job security and the future of local journalism in the region. Employees are now waiting to see what happens during the upcoming CSE meeting on October 13.
