Second suspect charged in tax authority hack

A 16-year-old boy has been placed under judicial investigation in Paris as part of the probe into the hacking of the French tax authority, according to the prosecutor’s office. The boy was 15 at the time of the incident and is now under judicial supervision, as confirmed by the newspaper Le Monde.

First suspect in provisional detention

An 18-year-old suspect was previously placed under judicial investigation and put in provisional detention at the beginning of September. This individual, known by the pseudonym "ChatNoir," had already been charged with other data leaks before being linked to the tax authority breach.

Scope of the data theft

The cyberattack, which occurred in late June and late July, was claimed by the hacker group Zerobytes. The breach affected at least 678,000 individuals and professionals, according to the directorate general of public finances (DGFiP).

Suspects linked to previous leaks

The teenager, nicknamed "Casquette," is the second person charged with the tax office data theft. Both he and the 18-year-old "ChatNoir" have prior charges related to other data leaks, indicating a pattern of cybercrime involving the two individuals.
