Multiple organizations attend event

The French Army, the French Navy, the Prefecture of the Gard, Nîmes Métropole, the City of Nîmes, and several other public institutions participated in an event in Nîmes aimed at connecting young people with public sector job opportunities. The SDIS 30, a local emergency services organization, had originally planned to attend but was unable to due to being deployed elsewhere.

Forum aims to provide concrete opportunities

Mélynda Maufroid, director of the Local Mission, explained that the event’s goal is more than just job presentations. She said that young people today seek concrete opportunities and direct access to employment offers, which the forum aimed to provide. Around fifteen job offers were available on site, with some organizations looking for pre-screened candidates and others preferring to meet young people throughout the morning.

Event expected to attract over 350 participants

The Local Mission anticipated around 350 participants, with 250 being guided by its counselors and 100 by its partners, including France Travail. The organization supports approximately 5,500 young people and regularly holds forums at the Simone Veil Center and other locations near priority neighborhoods. This event, however, was the first to be entirely dedicated to public employment.

Public employment is accessible to all

Nicolas Cadène, vice president of Nîmes Métropole and representative of mayor Vincent Bouget, emphasized that many young people mistakenly believe public employment is not for them. He said that this is not true, as there are multiple ways to enter public service, and every citizen is eligible, except for talent. He also noted that the principle of equal access to public service dates back to the Declaration of the Rights of Man.

Forum highlights diversity of public service jobs

The event featured stands from various sectors, including defense, housing, taxation, education, and sports, to showcase the wide range of opportunities available in public service. Cadène noted that public services touch all areas of daily life and can interest almost everyone, offering meaningful work for the common good.
