Juan Carlos Ferrero, a former top tennis player who once ranked number one in the world, is considering a return to coaching in 2027. However, he has reportedly turned down several opportunities to coach players ranked in the Top 10. Stefano Cobolli, the father and coach of Flavio Cobolli, mentioned on the SuperTennis show Tennis Talk that he had tried multiple times to convince Ferrero to join his son's coaching team. Cobolli said Ferrero had refused three or four times, but he emphasized that this was not a problem. Flavio Cobolli, who is currently ranked in the Top 10, has had his best season so far and has continued to improve under his father's guidance. Cobolli expressed admiration for Ferrero's work with Carlos Alcaraz, a Spanish player who rose to fame under Ferrero's coaching. He noted that Ferrero's personality matches that of his former protege, Alcaraz. Despite the rejections, Cobolli has not completely ruled out a future collaboration with Ferrero, though he acknowledged that such a partnership would be challenging. Ferrero, who parted ways with Alcaraz in December 2025, confirmed his desire to return to the tennis circuit in an interview with Punto de Break on October 7, 2026, on the occasion of the release of his autobiography Mentalidad ganadora. In the interview, Ferrero said he would only return to coaching if something "really excites" him. He expressed interest in working with a player who is already well trained, in a project that would require less daily investment than his previous work with Alcaraz. Ferrero's decision to return to the circuit has not yet been finalized, and his coaching career remains uncertain as he weighs his options for 2027. The tennis world is watching closely to see what Ferrero will choose to do next.
