iPad mini 8 expected to cost more

Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg journalist who closely follows Apple, reported that the next iPad mini will be "significantly more expensive" than the current model. He estimates a price close to 799 dollars in the United States (approximately 710 euros before tax), compared to 599 dollars for the current model.

New features and design changes

The upcoming tablet, already nicknamed the iPad mini 8, is expected to replace the iPad mini 7 released in 2024 and would be the first in the line to receive an OLED screen, a point on which many reports agree. OLED technology allows each pixel to produce its own light, resulting in deeper blacks and better contrast than the current LCD panel.

Expected technical improvements

Other technical specifications are expected to include thinner bezels, revised speakers, the A20 Pro chip from the iPhone 18 Pro, and a relocated front camera. Apple is expected to present the tablet during an event scheduled for late October, at the same time as the OLED-screen MacBook Pro.

Price differences between regions

In France, the 128 GB version of the iPad mini 7 is listed at 689 euros on the Apple Store, up from 559 euros until the end of June. No European prices have leaked for the new model. If Apple maintains the current gap between its American and French prices (approximately 15 percent, including VAT in France), an iPad mini at 799 dollars would be around 920 euros.

Storage capacity and pricing strategy

The starting storage capacity could also increase, which would make the price increase a bit easier to swallow. Apple has used this method before. In 2024, the 11-inch iPad Pro switched to OLED and 256 GB of base storage instead of 128 GB, for 200 dollars more in the United States (approximately 180 euros before tax).

Uncertainty around display technology

Reports contradict each other regarding ProMotion, the 120 Hz display that makes scrolling smoother. If OLED does not appeal to you, the iPad mini 7 is still sold for 689 euros on the Apple Store. Apple has not said whether it will remain in the catalog after the arrival of its successor, expected by the end of October. It is not yet known which OLED Apple will use. On the iPad Pro, the OLED panel stacks two layers of diodes to gain in brightness and lifespan, but it is more expensive to manufacture.
