Project scale and scope

The project involves installing photovoltaic canopies—solar panel structures over parking lots—across 120 Carrefour stores in France, with a total capacity of about 25 megawatts and 45,000 solar panels.

Partnership and agreement

Greenvolt Next, a subsidiary of the Portuguese company Greenvolt, has signed an agreement with Carrefour Property, the real estate division of the Carrefour retail group, to develop and manage these solar installations.

Tender process and project details

The initiative follows a national tender by Carrefour Property aimed at developing, financing, building, and maintaining solar canopies across its French properties. Each site will be customized to meet specific technical, operational, and regulatory conditions.

Energy impact and benefits

The solar installations are expected to produce enough electricity annually to significantly offset the energy needs of the affected stores, helping to stabilize energy costs and reduce carbon emissions from Carrefour’s real estate operations.

Long-term agreement and company background

The partnership is structured as a 20-year power purchase agreement, under which Greenvolt Next will handle all aspects of the project, from financing to maintenance. Greenvolt Next operates in 12 European countries and has more than 1 gigawatt of contracted renewable energy capacity.
