The MG 4 Urban has shown strong efficiency in urban environments, though its performance on long journeys is yet to be fully tested. This model is larger than the standard MG 4 but shares only the name. It targets a more urban market with a smaller battery and shorter range. The car offers a WLTP range of 405 km, with energy consumption at 15.5 kWh per 100 km. On mixed routes, it achieves a range of 390 km with 13.4 kWh per 100 km, and on long-distance driving, it covers 260 km with 20.4 kWh per 100 km. The MG 4 Urban charges from 10 to 80% in 28 minutes at a maximum power of 87 kW. Its charging curve features a flat plateau at maximum power from 10 to just over 70%. This power level might be limited for technical or marketing reasons, possibly to ensure the standard MG 4 with a larger battery remains distinct. Reaching 100% from 10% takes 55 minutes in total. The range gained from 10 to 80% is 180 km, and from 80 to 100% is 51 km. While the modest charging power allows it to charge without issues on most stations, some lower-powered stations may limit the final charging speed. The MG 4 Urban can recover 100 km of motorway range in 15 minutes and 190 km in 30 minutes. These results are comparable to the Peugeot e-308, and it outperforms the Renault Megane E-Tech and Volkswagen ID.3. In mixed usage, the car can recover 290 km of range in 30 minutes. Based on a public price of 0.60 €/kWh, the usage cost varies from 8.8 € per 100 km on mixed routes to 13.3 € per 100 km on motorways. With an operator subscription, the costs would be lower, ranging from 5.8 to 8.8 € per 100 km. A home charge at the base price would cost only 3.0 € per 100 km. The MG 4 Urban performs well on a 500 km trip between Lyon and Paris, taking 5 hours and 12 minutes with two stops. It matches the Peugeot e-308 and approaches the updated MG 4 64 kWh. It also outperforms the pre-restyled Volkswagen ID.3 58 kWh. Despite its smaller battery, the MG 4 Urban offers a range comparable to cars with a 10 kWh larger battery. It is spacious, practical, and more enjoyable to drive than to look at, making it a versatile option for daily use and longer trips. The MG 4 Urban starts at 24,995 € for the Comfort version with a 43 kWh battery, while the 54 kWh version starts at 27,495 €. The Premium finish with the larger battery is priced at 30,495 €, but MG offers a discount, bringing the test model’s price down to 25,490 €. The price/performance ratio is considered unbeatable.
