Teenager under investigation for school shooting

A 14-year-old boy is under investigation by the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office after allegedly opening fire with a hunting rifle at his high school in Aubagne, a town in the Bouches-du-Rhône department of France, on Monday, October 12. The incident resulted in injuries to the school principal and a teacher.

Suspect admits to planning the attack

During his detention, the teenager admitted to planning the attack over several months, according to a statement from the prosecutors' office on October 14. However, he denied intending to kill the two injured individuals, claiming his actions were not premeditated to cause fatalities.

Claim of harassment as motive

The suspect reportedly told investigators that he was motivated by a "desire for revenge" due to alleged harassment from teachers and classmates. However, the prosecutors' office has not confirmed this as a verified motive at this stage of the investigation.

Formal charges requested

The teenager was presented to three anti-terrorism investigating judges on Wednesday for possible formal charges. Prosecutors have requested his provisional detention while the investigation continues.
