An intruder is still at large after allegedly breaking into a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) base in Darwin, attacking a member of the defense forces, and fleeing in a stolen vehicle. According to a defense department statement, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon when an individual "unlawfully gained access" to the RAAF Darwin base located in the suburb of Winnellie. In response, RAAF security, the Joint Military Police Unit, Northern Territory Police, and the Australian Federal Police all took action, implementing lockdown procedures and protocols on the base. The individual is alleged to have assaulted a defense force member before escaping in a stolen vehicle. Northern Territory Police, who are leading the investigation, confirmed they responded to the incident around 4:30 pm on Monday. The suspect was last seen traveling in the stolen car approximately 15 kilometers from the base. According to police, the vehicle was later spotted traveling south on the Stuart Highway, prompting a pursuit. However, the chase was called off near Palmerston after police lost sight of the vehicle. The stolen vehicle involved in the incident is a white Ford Ranger. As of now, the suspect has not been identified, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are urging the public to provide any information that could assist in locating the individual. The incident has raised concerns about security at military installations and the potential risks posed by unauthorized access to sensitive areas.
