Marion Maréchal, a European Parliament member and leader of the small far-right party Identity Freedom, is expected to play a key role in the presidential campaign of Marine Le Pen, despite past tensions within the National Rally (RN), the larger far-right political party in France. Although she did not attend a recent event in Hénin-Beaumont where Le Pen officially returned to the political scene, Maréchal has reaffirmed her support for Le Pen's candidacy. She has also pledged to help secure Le Pen's victory in the presidential election and ensure that Jordan Bardella, the RN's candidate for the National Assembly, wins a majority in the legislative elections. Maréchal, known for her independent stance within the RN, has previously caused internal disagreements, including by considering a run for the Paris municipal elections and expressing openness to working with figures from President Emmanuel Macron’s party. Described as a "free spirit" within the far-right movement, her return to the RN fold has been viewed as part of an effort to consolidate the party around trusted individuals. Her niece, Nolwenn Olivier, has been promoted to director of communication for Le Pen’s presidential campaign, signaling a closer alignment between Maréchal and the RN leadership. Although Maréchal supports Bardella in the upcoming legislative elections, some within the RN have raised concerns that her involvement in the campaign could create internal tensions. However, both Le Pen and Bardella have denied any conflicts, with Bardella stating there are "none at all" and Le Pen emphasizing that disagreements are typically resolved through internal discussions. Despite this, Maréchal has not yet been officially included in the RN campaign structure, though her close allies suggest she may serve as a spokesperson due to her strong debating skills and appeal to a wider audience. Maréchal’s effectiveness in securing endorsements and influencing the campaign remains uncertain. In the 2024 legislative elections, she struggled to gain significant support compared to other prominent RN figures like Éric Ciotti. Her ability to translate her political influence into tangible campaign success will be a key factor in determining her role within Le Pen’s presidential bid.
