Series launch and success

The series It: Welcome to Derry debuted on HBO Max in 2021, just before Halloween, and quickly gained popularity. Based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name and its two-part film adaptation from 2017 and 2019, the show has attracted tens of millions of viewers, with each episode averaging around ten million views.

Season 2 in production

A second season of It: Welcome to Derry has been officially confirmed and is currently in full production. The showrunner, Brad Caleb Kane, recently announced the addition of a new writer to the team, highlighting the ongoing creative development of the series.

New writer joins the team

The new writer is Ethan King, the grandson of Stephen King. Kane praised him highly, saying, "He is brilliant and very intelligent. He is exactly like his grandfather. [...] It is definitely a genetic inheritance." This marks a continuation of the King family's involvement in storytelling.

Family legacy in storytelling

Ethan King joins a long line of King family members in the creative field. His father, Owen King, and his uncle, Joe Hill, are both successful authors. This family legacy of storytelling is now being extended into the It: Welcome to Derry series.

Expanded universe and author involvement

While It: Welcome to Derry is based on Stephen King’s novel, the series expands its universe and connects with other works by King, such as The Shining and The Stand. The author’s involvement has been significant, and his family’s continued participation ensures the series remains a major project.
