Russian attacks on Saturday, September 12, caused at least four deaths across Ukraine, including two in the city of Zaporijjia and two at the ArcelorMittal Kryvyï Rig plant, according to local authorities and the company. ArcelorMittal confirmed via Telegram that the plant had been hit by a missile, resulting in two fatalities. The company described the facility as a civilian industrial site and condemned the attack, noting damage to both production and support structures. In Zaporijjia, a nighttime strike destroyed a house, killing two residents. Lioudmila, a 56-year-old local, told AFP that the attack felt like "absolute terror." Meanwhile, in Odessa on the Black Sea, Russian missile and drone strikes hit residential areas, injuring 35 people, including a five-month-old infant. Regional governor Oleg Kiper reported the injuries, and a video shared on Telegram showed the impact of a strike on a residential building, captured from inside an apartment. In response to the ongoing conflict, Ukrainian forces have increased their long-range attacks on Russian territory, targeting refineries and logistics centers. President Volodymyr Zelensky urged U.S. President Donald Trump to impose "immediate" and "severe" sanctions on Russia to disrupt its missile production capabilities. Despite diplomatic efforts led by the United States to resolve the conflict, no tangible progress has been made thus far. The attacks and retaliatory strikes highlight the ongoing escalation of violence in the region, with both sides continuing to target critical infrastructure and civilian areas. As the conflict enters another difficult phase, international mediation remains a key, though so far unsuccessful, avenue for de-escalation.
