The series Reacher, adapted from the novels by Lee Child, has been given the go-ahead for a sixth season even before its fifth season is released. The fifth season is currently being filmed, while the fourth season, which ended on Prime Video on September 16, was viewed by 66 million people in 28 days. Just 12 days after that season's conclusion, Amazon signed a contract for season six, bypassing the release of season five entirely. Prime Video has already ordered six seasons of Reacher, making it the second-longest scripted series on the platform, behind Bosch and tied with Invincible. The decision to order season six came just 12 days after the fourth season ended, even though the fifth season—based on the novel Welcome to Mother's Rest—is still in production. According to a report, the fifth season was nearly completed when the platform announced it in May of the previous year, with filming starting in July, just before the fourth season began airing. Peter Friedlander, director of international television at Amazon MGM Studios, praised Reacher as "a truly iconic series" and expressed enthusiasm about continuing the story with the creative team. The show has also led to a spin-off, Neagley, which is performing well on Prime Video and may be renewed soon. The fourth season of Reacher was based on the novel She Knew (also known as Gone Tomorrow in its original title). It followed the same formula as earlier seasons, featuring a simple storyline, timed action scenes, and limited dialogue. The series stars Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher, whose physical portrayal is closer to the description in the books than earlier film versions starring Tom Cruise. While the high viewership numbers support Amazon's strategy, some analysts caution that the continuous production of new seasons and the expansion of the Reacher universe through a spin-off could lead to audience fatigue. The appeal of Reacher has largely been its modern, minimalist western style, and turning each novel into a yearly, formulaic event may eventually diminish its impact.
