Acer has brought back the Packard Bell brand, introducing a new line of affordable and user-friendly electronics at IFA 2026. Once known for its bulky beige desktops and CRT monitors, the revived Packard Bell now offers colorful, modern products aimed at everyday consumers rather than high-end markets. The new lineup features vibrant colors like orange, purple, green, and yellow, signaling a shift from the brand’s past image. One of the standout products is the DotBook, a 14.5-inch laptop with an Intel Core 3 N355 processor, up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and up to 512GB of storage. Weighing under 2.9 pounds and offering up to seven hours of battery life, the DotBook starts at €499 (about $580). The Packard Bell revival isn’t limited to computers. The brand now includes a variety of consumer electronics such as a DotLoop suitcase turntable, a DotLine 4G feature phone, DotLook audio glasses, headphones, a ring light, and desk accessories. Some products are developed in partnership with other companies, like the connected mini-steamer made with Steasy. Acer says Packard Bell customers will have access to multilingual support across 28 countries and its existing EMEA service-center network, though specific warranty terms for different regions were not provided. This revival is currently focused on Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with no immediate plans for a U.S. return. Packard Bell was once a major player in the U.S. during the 1990s, selling low-cost home computers through major retailers like Sears, Walmart, Best Buy, and Circuit City. By 1994, it had become the third-largest PC manufacturer in the U.S., with an 11.5 percent market share. Acer acquired a 75 percent stake in Packard Bell’s parent company in 2008 for $45.8 million, and the latest launch is part of a broader strategy to tap into nostalgia. Acer has previously used this approach with the 2020 revival of the Gateway brand in the U.S., sold through Walmart. However, the timing of the new Packard Bell products has been unclear, with mentions of availability in both September and the fourth quarter of 2026. Whether the new lineup will eventually reach U.S. stores remains uncertain.
