Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are nearing confirmation for a highly anticipated boxing match set for December 11 in Cardiff, Wales. The bout, which has been in negotiation for months, is expected to finally take place after discussions over the event’s timing and venue. Promoter Eddie Hearn, who represents Joshua, confirmed the date and location, addressing concerns that the fight might occur during late hours in the UK. He assured fans that the event is unlikely to start as late as 3 a.m. British Summer Time, though finalizing the start time required coordination with the Principality Stadium and local authorities, which contributed to the delay in announcing the fight. Hearn emphasized that Joshua was the driving force behind the decision to hold the fight in the UK, prioritizing the location over potential financial incentives or changes to the original agreement. Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, noted that while Fury’s contract allowed for the fight to be held elsewhere, he chose to bring the event to the UK to make it happen. Initially, Fury had wanted the bout to take place in the United States, possibly in New York City’s Madison Square Garden, but he has since agreed to Cardiff as the venue. The fight between Joshua and Fury has been the subject of speculation for nearly a decade, with both fighters having previously held world titles in the heavyweight division. Fury last competed in late July against Mariusz Wach in Thailand, while Joshua’s most recent bout was in Saudi Arabia, where he faced Kristian Prenga. Despite surviving two knockdowns in that match, Joshua ultimately won by stopping Prenga in the second round. This long-awaited showdown represents a significant moment in British boxing history, as both fighters are former two-time world champions. The confirmation of the date and location marks a major step forward in what is expected to be one of the most watched boxing events of the year.
