Flavien Tait retires from football

Flavien Tait, 33, has officially announced the end of his professional football career, citing the intense pressure of playing for Olympique de Marseille (OM) as the primary reason for his decision.

Tait's career path

Tait had been linked with a move to OM during the summer of 2019 but instead joined Stade Rennais for around 10 million euros. During his time at Rennais, he experienced European nights and even played in the UEFA Champions League.

Tait's time in Turkey

After Rennais, Tait moved to Turkey for a stint before returning to France to play for Rodez. His experiences across different leagues shaped his understanding of the pressures faced by professional athletes.

Mental challenges of playing for OM

In an interview with Génération After on RMC, Tait explained that mental preparation is crucial for playing at OM, where the pressure is intense and can affect a player's personal life. He noted that the entire city of Marseille revolves around football, and failure can quickly lead to negative consequences.

OM's recent success

Meanwhile, OM's 2026-2027 season has seen a recent resurgence, with the team winning three consecutive matches in Ligue 1 against Troyes, Angers, and Le Havre, moving up to 8th place in the league.
